Falls Prevention

Did you know that inpatient hospital falls continue to be a major cause of harm and are the most reported adverse incidents in adult patient care settings? ²

  • 38.4 - 74% of hospital falls occur when the patient is moving, to, from or around their bed.³
  • Implementing a falls protocol and educating staff on using the right bed equipment can lead to 30% success in reducing falls.

‘Flex Up’ with Centrella's Smart+ Bed safety features - designed to help caregivers monitor non-fall risk and fall risk patients.

Determining optimal bed height range

A hospital bed should adjust to a range of heights to meet the capabilities of individual patients as they move from the bed. Available range of motion determines a patient’s ability to rise from the edge of a bed or chair. Adjusting the height of the bed helps patients overcome these limitations.4

Pressure Injury Prevention

Did you know?

  • The overall prevalence of pressure injuries in acute-care hospitals in Australia and New Zealand is 12.9% and the hospital-acquired pressure injury prevalence is 7.9%.⁵
  • Australia's annual pressure injury treatment costs is estimated to be $983 million which represents 1.9% of all public hospital expenditure.⁶
  • 76% of pressure injury patients report pain which stems from their conditions⁷ and impacts quality of life.⁸
These events may increase the financial burden to patients and hospitals.

'Flex Up' with Centrella's Smart+Bed range of therapeutic surfaces to deliver optimal pressure redistribution to reduce risk of pressure injury and enhance patient comfort. Surface features also assist caregivers with patient repositioning and safe patient handling practice.

Early Indication of Patient Deterioration

Studies show that respiratory rate and heart rate are the most important indicators of patient deterioration,⁹ yet respiration continues to the the "neglected vital sign".¹⁰
  • Respiratory compromise increases a patient's mortality rate by over 30% and ICU stays by almost 50%.¹¹
  • The mortality rate for patients admitted to ICU from wards is 2X compared to those admitted from ED.¹²

When patients deteriorate quickly, hospitals need new technology to

  • Identify signs of earlier deterioration and receive real-time alerts
  • Initiate an early intervention
  • Promote patient safety
