President and Chief Executive Officer
John P. Groetelaars joined Hillrom as president and chief executive officer in May 2018. Previously, Mr. Groetelaars was executive vice president and president of Becton, Dickinson and Company’s (BD) Interventional Segment, where his responsibilities included global strategic, operational, commercial and financial performance, and delivering the segment’s innovation platform. Prior to the BD acquisition of C.R. Bard, Mr. Groetelaars was group president at Bard, which he had joined in 2008. He previously held positions of increasing responsibility with Boston Scientific Corporation, Guidant Corporation and Eli Lilly. Mr. Groetelaars earned his bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University in Michigan, and an MBA from Columbia University in New York.
Chief Financial Officer
Barbara W. Bodem was appointed chief financial officer of Hillrom in December 2018. Ms. Bodem joined Hillrom from Mallinckrodt, where she served as senior vice president, Finance. Earlier in her career Ms. Bodem worked at Hospira as vice president, Global Commercial Finance, as well as at Eli Lilly and Company, where she held a variety of Finance roles in the U.S. and the U.K., including serving as CFO for Lilly Oncology. Ms. Bodem recently served as a member of the board of directors of Invacare Corporation. She earned her bachelor's of science in finance and MBA from Indiana University.
President, Europe, Middle East and Africa
Francisco Canal was appointed president, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in June 2019 after serving for two years as president of the company’s Global Surgical Solutions business. Mr. Canal joined Hillrom in October 2015 as president, Europe, and played a key role in that region’s growth. Before joining Hillrom, Mr. Canal held several senior executive roles at Baxter, Gambro and, most recently, Smith and Nephew. He has lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He holds an MBA from IMD in Switzerland, a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Institut Quimic de Sarria in Barcelona and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona.
President, Global Surgical Solutions
Amy Dodrill was appointed president, Global Surgical Solutions, in June 2019. Prior to assuming her current role, Ms. Dodrill was vice president, U.S. Sales, Global Surgical Solutions, and previously served as vice president and general manager of Hillrom’s Trumpf Medical U.S. business. She began her Hillrom career as an area vice president in Patient Support Systems. Ms. Dodrill joined Hillrom in 2012 from DynaVox, where she served as a global commercial operations leader, and earlier was a regional vice president at GE Healthcare. She earned her degree in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Dodrill currently serves on the board of PROCEPT® BioRobotics Corporation.
President, Front Line Care
Andreas G. Frank was appointed president, Front Line Care, in December 2018. Mr. Frank joined Hillrom in 2011 as senior vice president, Corporate Development and Strategy, and most recently served in the additional role of chief transformation officer. Prior to joining Hillrom, he served as director of Corporate Development and vice president, Business Development, at Danaher Corporation. He previously worked in the Corporate Finance and Strategy practice at McKinsey & Company. Mr. Frank earned master’s degrees in business administration and economics from the Otto Beisheim School of Management in Germany and The University of Texas at Austin, Red McCombs School of Business, respectively.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Cheryl James was appointed chief human resources officer in December 2020, having previously served as vice president, Human Resources, since 2015, overseeing HR for the company’s international and surgical businesses, and corporate functions. Ms. James previously held executive-level roles at Baxter and Pfizer. She earned her master’s in management from Indiana Wesleyan University, and bachelor’s in communications from Indiana State University.
President, Patient Support Systems
Paul (PJ) Johnson was appointed president, Patient Support Systems (PSS) in November 2016. Mr. Johnson joined Hillrom in 2013 as a senior sales leader for the U.S. PSS business. Prior to joining Hillrom, he worked for Life Technologies, where he was most recently President of its Americas region. Before his tenure at Life Technologies, Mr. Johnson spent 18 years with General Electric in a series of increasingly senior sales executive roles, culminating in his position as general manager, Sales and Marketing, in GE’s Clinical Information Systems business. Mr. Johnson earned his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin.
Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Strategy and Investor Relations
Mary Kay Ladone was appointed senior vice president, Corporate Development, Strategy and Investor Relations, in December 2018. Ms. Ladone has served as vice president, Investor Relations, since joining Hillrom in July 2016. Previously, she served as senior vice president, Investor Relations, of Baxalta Incorporated. Prior to that, she served in a variety of finance, business development and investor relations roles for Baxter International. Ms. Ladone holds a degree in finance and economics from the University of Notre Dame, and is a member of the Edward Elmhurst Hospital System Board of Trustees.
Senior Vice President, Operations
Tim Lawrence was appointed senior vice president, Operations in September 2017. Prior to joining Hillrom, Mr. Lawrence spent 15 years in various positions with increasing responsibility at Baxter International Inc., including most recently as corporate vice president for Operations where he oversaw 60 manufacturing plants spanning 30 countries. Earlier in his career, he served as a general manager at Precision Components International, part of The Wertheimer Group, and at Pratt and Whitney. Prior to his business career, Mr. Lawrence was a commissioned infantry officer in the U.S. Army. He holds a bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master's degree in management from Purdue University.
Chief Talent and Diversity Officer
Angela B. Lee was appointed chief talent and diversity officer in December 2020. Previously, Ms. Lee was vice president, Human Resources, for Front Line Care and Talent Development, and joined Hillrom with the acquisition of Welch Allyn in 2015. At Welch Allyn, Ms. Lee held roles of increasing seniority, including direct oversight of a global team of HR business partners and key positions in acquisition and divestiture activities. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Economics from SUNY Empire. Ms. Lee was named one of the 25 Influential Black Women in Business by Network Journal.
Chief Marketing Officer
Richard Marritt was appointed chief marketing officer of Hillrom in October 2018; he served previously as chief marketing officer of Hillrom subsidiary Welch Allyn for two years, a role in which he was responsible for creating and executing a commercial marketing strategy to drive growth and access to Welch Allyn’s products and services throughout the world. Prior to joining Hillrom, Mr. Marritt held various positions over 17 years with Baxter International, most recently serving as the global franchise head of its Acute, Renal Therapy Services & Software businesses. Formerly, he served as region head for the U.S. & Canada, general manager for Baxter’s U.S. Renal business, and vice president of the Bioscience division for Latin America and Canada. Mr. Marritt earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Brock University and his master’s of science degree from the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario.
Chief Legal Officer and Secretary
Deborah M. Rasin was appointed chief legal officer and secretary in January 2016. Before joining Hillrom, Ms. Rasin served as vice president, secretary and general counsel at DENTSPLY International Inc., the NASDAQ-listed leading manufacturer and distributor of dental and other consumable healthcare products. Prior to DENTSPLY, Ms. Rasin served as vice president of Legal, general counsel and secretary of Samsonite Corporation, and subsequently was a partner in a private law practice in London, England. Prior to joining Samsonite, Ms. Rasin spent ten years as a senior commercial and corporate attorney for General Motors Corporation. In addition to residing in the United States and the United Kingdom, she has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Switzerland and Israel. Ms. Rasin holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and juris doctor from Harvard Law School.
Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis
Jason Richardson was appointed vice president, Financial Planning and Analysis, in April 2018, having previously served as the company’s treasurer, corporate controller and chief accounting officer, Finance lead for Hillrom’s Surgical Solutions and Respiratory Health businesses, as well as in various finance roles with increasing responsibility within the North America region. Mr. Richardson joined Hillrom in 2008 from KPMG, where he spent nearly a decade, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Chief Compliance Officer
Ilana Shulman was appointed chief compliance officer in November 2014. Prior to joining Hillrom, Ms. Shulman worked at Astellas U.S., where she was responsible for all legal and compliance issues for Latin America as well as its anti-bribery and anti-corruption program. Previously, Ms. Shulman spent 12 years at Pfizer in a variety of roles in Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs, including supporting the Worldwide Public Affairs and Policy groups and the Latin America, Europe and Japan/Asia regions. Before joining Pfizer, Ms. Shulman worked at Sullivan & Cromwell, where she specialized in securities transactions with Latin American and Spanish clients. Ms. Shulman also clerked for Chief Judge Gregory Carman on the U.S. Court of International Trade. Ms. Shulman holds a bachelor’s degree in Government and Spanish from Dartmouth College, a juris doctor from Columbia Law School and a master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia School of International and Public Affairs.
Vice President, Regulatory Affairs
Dr. Jessica Smith joined Hillrom in April 2020, as vice president, Regulatory Affairs, having served in a similar capacity at Becton Dickinson (BD), where she led Regulatory Affairs for BD’s Interventional Segment. Previously, Dr. Smith worked at Bard Access Systems as vice president, Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, Techniscan Medical Systems, as well as Kali Corporation, a regulatory consultancy, where she advised medical device and pharma companies seeking expertise in regulatory and clinical affairs, as well as bioengineering and market research. Dr. Smith earned her Ph.D. in bioengineering, master’s in engineering and bachelor’s in civil engineering from the University of Utah.
Vice President, Quality Assurance
Janet Stevens joined Hillrom in May 2020 as vice president, Quality Assurance. Ms. Stevens is an accomplished leader with extensive experience across a range of quality and operations disciplines, and joined Hillrom from Pfizer, where she was most recently vice president, Sterile Injectable Quality Operations. Prior to Pfizer and its predecessor Hospira, Ms. Stevens served in a series of increasingly senior leadership positions at Abraxis Bioscience, Eli Lilly and Baxter. Ms. Stevens earned her MBA at DePaul University in Chicago and her bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University.
President, Asia Pacific
Mark Wallwork joined Hillrom as president, Asia Pacific, in September 2018. Previously, Mr. Wallwork led CR Bard’s Asia Pacific business. Earlier in his career, he was a regional lead and business director at Boston Scientific in Australia, Asia, Japan and the UK. He began his career at Astra Pharmaceuticals and earned his degree in economics from the University of Western Australia.
